LONDON — The Americans grabbed hands and backed up, eager to get a better view of the scoreboard. There really was no need. That Olympic gold medal was in the bag the minute they took the floor. The Americans lived up to their considerable hype and then some Tuesday night, routing silver medalist Russia and everybody else on their way to their first Olympic title in women’s gymnastics since 1996. Michael Phelps second in 200 fly, ties mark for most medals. Phelps won silver in the 200 butterfly Tuesday, finishing 05. seconds behind South Africa’s Chad le Clos, who shouted and slapped the water in celebration. Le Clos won in 1:52.96, pulling ahead of Phelps in the final meters. With the silver medal, Phelps tied the record for most Olympic medals.

The last-place Phillies get outfielder Nate Schierholtz, minor league catcher Tommy Joseph and minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin for Pence in Tuesday’s deal. Pence is batting .271 with 17 homers and 59 RBIs this season. Schierholtz batted .257 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 77 games. PHILADELPHIA(AP) – The Phillies have traded two-time All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers for relief pitcher Josh Lindblom and minor league pitcher Ethan Martin. Philadelphiaalso gets a player to be named later or cash for the 31-year-old Victorino, who can become a free agent after the season.
