UNDATED – When all was said and done, Penn State football coach will stay in Happy Valley.  Bill O’Brien was approached by the NFL following the firing of several coaches, but the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator tells WKOK why he chose to stick with the Nittany Lions.

“The group of players and the staff we have here, along with my family, are the three biggest influences for me.  This is a top football program.”

The NFL had reached out to O’Brien and he says, “I have a lot of respect for the NFL, but at the end of the day it is right for me to do what I said I was going to do and stay at Penn State.”

Coming into his second year as head coach, O’Brien says he is confident in his team’s ability.  “I think the key position for us is quarterback and who will emerge.  We have confidence that Steven Bench will be a very very good quarterback and we have some guys coming in as well that we are looking forward to coaching.  Overall as a program, the guys we have are much farther ahead than they were last year.

O’Brien was a guest on the Steve Jones Show talking about a number of topics.  You can hear the entire interview below. (Sara Bartlett)
