BTN.com – The Big Ten Conference has issued a statement regarding Brandon Smith’s ejection in the Nittany Lions/Wolverines game at Ann Arbor: During Saturday’s Penn State at Michigan football game, a Penn State defensive player was ejected for targeting with 14:55 remaining in the second quarter. We do not find fault with the flag that was thrown by the on-field officials as they are instructed to prioritize player safety when making calls. Notre Dame will host Michigan in the first game on Sept. 1, 2018, with a return contest set for Michigan Stadium on Oct. 26, 2019. The Wolverines and Fighting Irish last squared off in 2014 with Notre Dame routing Michigan 31-0. The programs had played consecutively from 2002-14 and 42 times in total dating back to 1887, including 31-of-37 years since 1978.
