2016 Blue-White Date Set

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 29, 2015 – The 2016 date has been set for one of the highlights of the Penn State sports calendar, the annual Blue-White Game presented by AAA. The Blue-White football game will be played Saturday, April 16, 2016 in Beaver Stadium. The intra-squad scrimmage is tentatively scheduled to kick in the early to mid afternoon. More details about Blue-White Game and related events will be announced after the 2015 regular season. The Nittany Lions concluded spring practice on April 18, with an estimated 68,000 fans attending the Blue-White Game, the nation’s third-largest spring football crowd this year….

Fox Sports’ Steve Brynes Dies at 56

Fox Sports announced Tuesday that NASCAR announcer Steve Brynes died at the age of 56. Byrnes had been battling head and neck cancer after he was diagnosed in August of 2013. Sunday’s race at Bristol was renamed the Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes. IndyCar drivers and NBC Sports anncouncers at the IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach also showed support for the Fox announcer on Sunday during the race and broadcast. He joined Fox in 2001 as the network picked up NASCAR rights. He was to be the network’s lead announcer for Camping World Truck Series coverage in 2015….

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell director of athletics and recreation John Hardt announced this evening that Nathan Davis has been hired to become the 21st head coach of the Bison men’s basketball program. Hernandez Found Guilty of Murder

AP/CBSSports.com – Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday in the June 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, and faces a sentence of life in prison without parole. After seven days of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict shortly before 10:30 a.m. As the verdict was read by the foreperson, Hernandez’s girlfriend and mother and Lloyd’s mother began sobbing. Hernandez sat down as his lawyers stood around him. Hernandez was found guilty on all charges, including weapons charges. The jury ruled that he was guilty for reason of “extreme atrocity.”

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu informed owner Dan Rooney Wednesday that he has decided to retire from football, the Herald-Standard reports. “It’s all about family,” Polamalu said in a phone interview. “I live here in Pittsburgh now, and since the end of the season I’ve had a chance to enjoy my family on a level I never had before.
