Hernandez Found Guilty of Murder

AP/CBSSports.com – Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday in the June 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, and faces a sentence of life in prison without parole. After seven days of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict shortly before 10:30 a.m. As the verdict was read by the foreperson, Hernandez’s girlfriend and mother and Lloyd’s mother began sobbing. Hernandez sat down as his lawyers stood around him. Hernandez was found guilty on all charges, including weapons charges. The jury ruled that he was guilty for reason of “extreme atrocity.”

Polamalu Retires

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu informed owner Dan Rooney Wednesday that he has decided to retire from football, the Herald-Standard reports. “It’s all about family,” Polamalu said in a phone interview. “I live here in Pittsburgh now, and since the end of the season I’ve had a chance to enjoy my family on a level I never had before. It was awesome.” The Steelers had asked Polamalu, who carried an $8.25-million cap hit for 2015, to retire in February, but he resisted until this week. Steelers Bell Suspended Three Games

CBS Sports.com – Two days after LeGarrette Blount received a one-game suspension, his former teammate, Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell will be suspended three games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Wednesday. Bell will appeal his suspension, per Schefter. Bell, 23, was arrested on Aug. 20, 2014 after being pulled over by police while driving. After the arresting officer alleged a smell of marijuana coming from the car, Bell was charged with DUI and possession of the drug. Police found 20 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. Pirates Sign Josh Harrison
