Worilds Retires

Jason Worilds was the latest example on Tuesday night, walking away from the game while he was on the brink of a massive contract in free agency, just a year after collecting more than $9 million from the Steelers via the transition tag. ‘Cuse and Boehiem Punished by NCAA

by Matt Norlander, CBS Sports.com – The NCAA’s Committee on Infractions has announced significant punishments against the Syracuse men’s basketball program and its longtime, Hall of Fame coach, Jim Boeheim. Boeheim will be suspended for the team’s first nine ACC games next season and the school will lose three scholarships per year through 2018-19 as punishment for infractions that occurred with the men’s basketball program over the past 10 years. BUCKNELLBISON.com/LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s basketball team won its fourth outright Patriot League regular-season championship in the last five years on Saturday. Chambers Reprimanded by Big Ten, University Fined $10K

Big Ten Release – The Big Ten office today issued a public reprimand of Penn State men’s basketball head coach Patrick Chambers for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy following Penn State’s game against Maryland on Feb. 14. In addition, the conference announced that the institution has been fined $10,000 as a result of the violation. Full Bowl Share in 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa./GoPSUSports.com – The Big Ten and the Council of Presidents/Chancellors issued a decision on Feb. 11 to restore Penn State’s share of the conference bowl revenues for the upcoming football season. In 2013 and 2014, as part of sanctions put in place by the Big Ten, Penn State’s share of the conference’s bowl revenues were divided equally among 12 Big Ten schools and were distributed to child-focused organizations in their local communities. Coach Jerry Tarkanian Dies

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Hall of Fame coach 84-year-old Jerry Tarkanian, who built a basketball dynasty at UNLV, has died. The towel-chewing coach dubbed “Tark the Shark” had been hospitalized three times in 10 months.  He had a second heart attack last April and was treated for pneumonia in November. Tarkanian led the 1990 UNLV team that won an NCAA national title and the 1991 Runnin’ Rebels who lost to Duke in the Final Four.  Tarkanian later coached with the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and at Fresno State, leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament twice.
