Michigan, Notre Dame Renew Rivalry In 2018

By Adam Silverstein/CBSSports.com – Michigan and Notre Dame are resuming their historic football series beginning in 2018.

Notre Dame will host Michigan in the first game on Sept. 1, 2018, with a return contest set for Michigan Stadium on Oct. 26, 2019.

The Wolverines and Fighting Irish last squared off in 2014 with Notre Dame routing Michigan 31-0. The programs had played consecutively from 2002-14 and 42 times in total dating back to 1887, including 31-of-37 years since 1978. The three-year drought will be the longest in the series since 1943 to 1978.

Discussion for renewing the series has been nearly nine months in the making, according to UM coach Jim Harbaugh, that he’s been “on board fully since the inception” of talks.  Irish coach Brian Kelly said he was pushing for the games just as hard as Harbaugh. “I think I’ve made it fairly public that I’d like to see this game happen,” he said.
