ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — De’Veon Smith led an overwhelming ground game with 107 yards rushing and a touchdown and Karan Higdon ran for two scores and No. 4 Michigan routed Penn State 49-10 on Saturday in both teams’ Big Ten opener. The Wolverines scored six touchdowns on the ground as they finished with 326 yards rushing. Wilton Speight threw one touchdown pass. “I was really impressed by all of our running backs,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We were moving the chains and breaking off big runs. That’s an efficient way to great way to move the ball, and our…

Wartman-White Out For Season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – GoPSUSports.com – Senior linebacker Nyeem Wartman-White will miss the remainder of the 2016 season after suffering an injury against Temple Saturday. The Philadelphia native had a strong return after missing nearly all of the 2015 season with an injury. He had 14 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and a half-sack. Wartman-White also had two pass breakups. In 2014, Wartman-White ended the season as the team’s second-leading tackler behind All-American Mike Hull.  His 75 tackles in 2014 more than doubled his previous career high, with his 6.2 stops per game ranking 28th in the conference. Penn State 34, Temple 27

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – GoPSUSports.com – Trace McSorley connected on 18-of-24 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown, including a pair of 52-yard throws and the Penn State defense held Temple to 38 yards rushing, as the Nittany Lions defeated Temple, 34-27, in front of a “Stripe Out” crowd Saturday afternoon in Beaver Stadium. Penn State (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten) led Temple (1-2, 0-0 American) by as many as two touchdowns in the first half, as Chris Godwin totaled 111 yards and a touchdown in the first 30 minutes. The Owls capitalized on Nittany Lion miscues in the second half to…

PSU Comeback Falls Short

PITTSBURGH, PA (UPI) – Penn State wouldn’t lie down but Pittsburgh wouldn’t be denied. Quadree Henderson returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 84 yards to set up James Conner’s second touchdown of the game and Pittsburgh held on to beat Penn State 42-39 on Saturday in Pittsburgh. With Penn State nearing field goal range, Pittsburgh safety Ryan Lewis intercepted Trace McSorley’s pass in the end zone with 1:15 left to secure the win in the first meeting of the two rivals since 2000. George Aston added two touchdowns for the Panthers (2-0) who stayed ahead with a punishing ground game. Saquon Barkley…

Texas 2OT Win Over Irish

By Chip Patterson/CBSSports.com Texas will be in every top 25 poll that exists on Tuesday. That little number hasn’t been beside the Longhorns’ name since they lost to BYU as the No. 25 team in polls on Sept. 6, 2014. The little number means nothing in the big, complex picture of Texas football, but it does mark a return to contention, and that’s all that Charlie Strong needs in 2016. Texas wasn’t expected to win the Big 12, and trust me, no one saved a spot for the Longhorns in their projected College Football Playoff. But contention, standing eye-to-eye with…

Bears Release Gould

By Sean Wagner-McGough/CBSSports.com – For the first time in forever, field goals at Soldier Field will no longer be as good as Gould. As first reported by ESPN’S Adam Schefter and confirmed by The Chicago Tribune, the Bears cut kicker Robbie Gould on Sunday night. In doing so, the Bears freed up $3 million in cap space. They also just parted ways with their all-time leader in points scored and their longest-tenured player — a distinction quarterback Jay Cutler now owns. In Gould’s career, which began in Chicago in 2005, he appeared in 166 games, connecting on 85.4 percent of…

PSU Over Kent St 33-13

By Travis Johnson/STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Trace McSorley isn’t offended when he sees defenders packing the line of scrimmage, knowing their primary goal is to stop the electric running back lined up next to or behind him on any given play. The Penn State quarterback is content to build his own reputation as a playmaker, and eventually, a downfield-passer to be reckoned with. Although he and the rest of Penn State’s new-look offense started slowly in a 33-13 win over Kent State on Saturday, McSorley believes he made positive first steps toward that goal. “When you’ve got Saquon (Barkley)…
